Origin: Turmeric is a product of Curcuma Longa, a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the ginger family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia. As many as 133 species of Curcuma have been identified worldwide to date.

Flavor Profile: Turmeric is warm, earthy, bitter, and has a peppery spice. Has a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger.

How To Eat: Turmeric arrives ready for consumption. It can be consumed raw by cutting or grating it up. This root can also be turned into a powder to use in dishes like curry! It also adds a nice dose of nutrients, color, and earthly flavor to smoothies. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It is a very strong antioxidant.Because curcumin is fat-soluble, consuming it with fat may increase absorption. Turmeric is also best consumed with black pepper for absorption purposes.
